Loch Lomond, Inverary Castle, Oban
From your Edinburgh pick up point you will head west and then north on this two day tour via Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest freshwater loch, to tour Inverary Castle and its gardens – owned by the Duke of Argyll – one of the West Coast’s most interesting ancestral homes and the real life setting of Duneagle Castle, featured in the ITV series Downton Abbey.
You will stay close by the shores of Scotland’s longest sealoch Loch Fyne and in the morning drive either via Loch Awe or the Crinan Canal to Oban, one of the West Coast of Scotland’s busiest sea ports with key transport links to the Inner Hebridean islands such as Colonsay, Islay, Jura, Lismore, Mull, Coll and Tiree.
You can spend time in Oban – also known as the “Gateway to the Isles” visiting local sites such as the Coliseum lookalike McCaig’s Tower, a well-known folly, and also the Oban Single Malt Whisky Distillery in the town centre, or spend some time walking round the locale and looking across Oban Bay towards the islands of Kerrera and Mull – the site of Duart Castle and the home of Clan McLean.
From here you will head back to Edinburgh stopping on route at the magnificent Kelpies – the largest equine structures in the world, set in the new Helix Park in Falkirk.
All time based journeys will be charged by the hour from the time the vehicle leaves the local office to the time it returns.
